SDR In A Box

Avcom of Virginia’s EVO generation products bring a smarter take on Software Defined Radio (SDR), blending advanced digital processing with efficient system design for superior operational performance.

On-Board Processing, Minimal Bandwidth

Unlike many SDR systems that rely on high-rate data streams sent to external computers for processing, Avcom’s devices handle the heavy lifting internally. This “SDR in a box” approach sharply reduces network load, making Avcom devices network-friendly and easy to integrate even in bandwidth-constrained environments.

From Analog Roots to Digital Agility

Avcom has evolved from using reliable analog log amps to detect RF power, to a modern architecture where RF signals are converted to digital bits as early as possible. This shift reduces hardware complexity, cuts component count, and greatly improves flexibility — enabling rapid adaptation to new requirements and technologies.

Efficient, Flexible, and Ready for Tomorrow

While traditional SDR setups often demand powerful host systems and wide data pipes, Avcom’s analyzers keep processing local. The result: lower network demands, simpler integration, and a compact, future-proof design that delivers high performance without the overhead.

Beacon Receivers: Evolved for GEO, LEO, and MEO Tracking

Avcom of Virginia’s beacon receiver products have long been trusted for tracking Geostationary Orbit (GEO) satellites, providing high noise rejection and stable performance. But with the rise of Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) and Medium-Earth Orbit (MEO) satellites, Avcom has evolved its technology to meet the demands of these fast-moving systems.

Low-Latency Power Readings

Traditionally, beacon receivers provided highly filtered power readings that updated slowly — fine for stationary GEO satellites but insufficient for LEO and MEO tracking. Avcom has introduced a new raw power reading field, reducing lag and ensuring near-instantaneous feedback (as fast as 10 ms) for rapid acquisition and tracking.

High Update Rate

With a new 100 Hz update rate, Avcom beacon receivers now deliver the rapid data flow needed for dynamic tracking environments. One airborne customer, for example, uses conical scanning paired with these high-speed readings to continually refine dish positioning for maximum throughput.

A Multi-Orbit Ready Solution

Avcom’s latest generation beacon receivers are now optimized for all satellite types:

GEO > Stable tracking with high noise rejection

LEO > Fast, low-latency updates for moving targets

MEO > Robust mid-orbit performance

Whether working with large aerospace primes or agile technology startups, Avcom supports multi-constellation and multi-orbit R&D programs. Avcom is ready to work with you.
