Space Capabilities Underpin Global Security Strategies

April 7th, 2026

We’re closing out this edition of Via Satellite in the days after SATShow Week, before we head to Space Symposium. One of my biggest takeaways from SATELLITE x GovMilSpace is how much space underpins our everyday life and global security strategies. SATShow Week was a chance to gather across the industry and dig into the challenges and opportunities at play, like data security strategies for sovereign networks, financing routes needed to grow the space market, and overall how to scale up to meet rising demand. You can catch up on all of Via Satellite’s coverage in our content hub.

Our April/May Cyber and Defense Special Edition picks up right where SATShow Week left off. The cover story by Anne Wainscott Sargent digs into the issue of space and critical infrastructure. While space isn’t formally recognized as critical infrastructure, experts agree it functions as critical infrastructure.

As Europe is facing increasing aggression from Russia, nations are racing to invest in more defense capabilities, including space. Tereza Pultarova, who has covered this issue extensively, speaks to experts that caution Europe isn’t moving fast enough.

To round out the edition, we have two compelling tech-forward features, one on in-space mobility and another lunar cybersecurity. Laurence Russell and Shaun Waterman dig into these emerging areas. With critical in-space mobility demonstrations on the horizon, this market segment is on the cusp of maturation. And as NASA ramps up the Artemis program and commercial Moon missions are on the rise, experts call attention to the unique concerns around lunar cybersecurity.

It was great to see so many members of the Via Satellite community in person during SATShow Week, and I hope to see more of you in Colorado Springs.
