40 Years Young and Still Going Strong

January 20th, 2026

Welcome to the first edition of Via Satellite in 2026 and what promises to be another big year for the industry. I will start by wishing our community a happy new year and wish you all the best for 2026.

It is also a HUGE year for Via Satellite as we celebrate our 40th birthday. It only seems like yesterday that we were celebrating our 30th birthday and now we have reached 40. They say life begins at 40, so we will see what is in store for Via Satellite. We have big plans throughout the year to celebrate this milestone and we will be sharing these with you throughout the year.

For this edition of Via Satellite, we have three incredibly timely stories. Anne Wainscott-Sargent covers the space race in the Arctic, an incredibly timely story given what is going on right now. Rachel Jewett conducts a roundtable with a number of top analysts’ about the potential for a SpaceX IPO this year. We also have a story that takes a look at the 10 defining stories in space and cybersecurity in 2025. This is always such an interesting story and thanks to our stellar CyberSat Advisory Board, we are able to put together an intriguing set of events here.

We are also counting down to SatShow Week 2026, which will see the community get together to discuss the key issues of the day. Via Satellite will naturally have a strong presence at the show, and we look forward to seeing you there. We will be doing more video content than ever before as we bring our most dynamic, interactive approach yet to the show. We look forward to seeing you soon.
