The Halfway Point in a Key Decade
January 14th, 20252025 is here. It is hard to believe we are now nearer 2030 than 2020, but here are. It promises to be a pivotal decade for the space industry on a number of levels. We are also in the run-up to SATELITE 2025, which will once again be the forum for key industry discussions that will resonate throughout the year.
Speaking of pivotal discussions, my colleague Rachel Jewett take a deep dive into the direct-to-device market which is seen as one of the ‘hot’ new markets in satellite. To back-up this feature, Rachel also interviewed Globalstar CEO Paul Jacobs about the company’s latest deal with Apple, as well as its plans to grow its business outside of the Apple deal.
As most of you know, we recently held the CyberSat event in Reston, Virginia. The cyber threats to satellite infrastructure are now very, very real. Tereza Pultarova takes a look at the issue of GNSS vulnerabilities. Her article looks at the unique case study of Estonia and how this small nation is taking the lead in the fight against space cyber attacks. Finally, we have a roundtable from the Via Satellite Advisory Board to talk about some of the key trends they are tracking in 2025.
I would just like to add that last year, Via Satellite reached an important milestone. We had over 3 million page views in 2024, which represents huge growth for us in terms of people engaging with our content. It is clear from these numbers that the space industry is in good health, and more people than ever are looking to learn about this industry. We are humbled and privileged that we get the opportunity to do this. I hope you have all had a good start to the year and we look forward to seeing you soon.
