I write this editor’s note at a strange time. On the one hand, I am about to come to SATELLITE for the first time in three years and see our community again, which is immensely exciting. But at the same time, war has come to Europe again and the human suffering and loss of innocent lives saddens us all. It casts a shadow, particularly as the pandemic has not exactly gone away either.

When I switch on the news, I am noticing the number of high-quality satellite images detailing what is going on in Ukraine. It shows how our industry has evolved and the data it can provide, not just to governments, but to people of the world who need to be educated and informed of what is going on. We can only hope for a swift resolution, although as I write this, it seems far away. There is a great sadness enveloping the world right now. But life must go on, as we all pray for a better future.

Our April edition of Via Satellite touches upon a number of key industry topics. Geospatial data, as I highlighted earlier, is becoming more important than ever, and a vibrant market. Vivienne Machi looks at this market and how it could develop further for our industry. Shaun Waterman puts the microscope on the antenna market, and how the industry is responding to new demands. In the cover story, Anne Wainscott-Sargent looks at the increasingly dynamic relationship between new space companies and the U.S. government. We also have an interview with Greg Wyler, one of the most enigmatic figures in our industry over the last two decades.

We hope you are continuing to stay safe and healthy. We look forward to hopefully better times ahead as the year goes on and we appreciate your support.
