The cord-cutting trend that has been watched for years in the United States is quickly going international, with the global Over-the-Top (OTT) media services market rapidly heating up. A report released late last year by analyst firm Research and Markets found that revenues from streaming online television episodes and movies across 138 countries will hit $83 billion in 2022 — more than double the $37 billion in international revenues in 2016. At the same time, it has only been a few years since Netflix introduced the idea of original content for big streaming companies with House of Cards; and the streaming industry is now shifting again as social media behemoths like Facebook introduce content, and more traditional media corporations like ESPN and Disney are poised to introduce their own standalone streaming platforms.
The sum of these forces is driving unprecedented demand for bandwidth and innovative distribution models. In this rapidly evolving media and entertainment environment satellite services are more important than ever. The NAB Show will provide a comprehensive window into what is happening in the global media and entertainment industry.
Whether at home, in a stadium, on a train or at the office, consumers expect a great viewing experience. Delivering the content they want, when and how they want it, is now fundamental to every content distributors’ success. As the face of TV changes around the globe, the 2018 NAB Show will present exhibits and educational sessions covering virtually every new technology related to television services, the delivery of mobile content, next generation media technologies, and content delivered across any platform to any screen, including to connected cars.
Connected Media IP on the NAB Show Floor will provide unique insight into the multiscreen viewing experience. With exhibits and a full education program, expect to emerge from this area with perspectives on enhanced workflow and the knowledge to deliver the best viewing experience for your audience. Separately, the IP Showcase, also on the NAB Show floor is a destination designed to guide industry professionals switching to IP.
